Electrification, particularly in the automotive/transport sector, is a key trend in various parts of the world and Singapore as well. The recent announcement by DPM Heng to phase out ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) by 2040 as well as the commitment to build 28,000 charging station is a strong calling.
A*STAR SIMTech’s electrification taskforce has engaged various parties (industrial, agencies and IHLs) individually in the past 9 months to solicit various inputs. We have identified motor and drive as a core area whereby R&D in this area will help to attract and boost the local manufacturing and ecosystem for electric vehicles.
A notable gap is the lack of information flow between the various demand drivers, technology creators, suppliers and manufacturers. This arises as automotive is not a tradition core sector in Singapore. The drive towards electrification plus the modularity of Electric vehicles manufacturing provides such an opportunity, but a catalyst is needed to speed up the process and ensure effective utilization of the limited resources which Singapore has. A consortium model is one such catalyst.
The purpose of this industry seminar is to engage the relevant private sector to share the outcome of our Networking Symposium (Part 1: IHLs) held in June, as well as to seek feedback to fine-tune the mechanism for the consortium model so that it can support the industry needs better.
We wish to showcase the cutting edge technologies and capabilities as well as seek problem statements from the industry to promote the innovation and upgrade of local automotive industry and leading an era of new mobility in the future.
This event would also serve as a professional exchange platform for participants to promote their businesses and interact with potential customers, suppliers and technology providers.
